About This “Eat It Then Dye” Blog

Although my fascination with shibori dyeing began in 2012, it wasn’t until 2015 that I began thinking about using natural, plant-based dyes in my work.  Although it makes my kitchen smell weird sometimes, it has been a rewarding experience.  I created this blog to document my “research” into plant-based dyes.

Edible or plant-based dyes were part of a year-long, Julie-and-Julia-style shibori investigation.  I went through the history of Japanese shibori, attempting techniques and using materials in the chronological order that they were used in Japan from ca. 700 A.D. through to the present day. Feel free to comment, ask questions, or just look at my pieces.  Most pieces are for sale on my website, click HERE.
